Hello Mornings: Inspired to Action

One of the most dreaded things that I've decided to do is take the Hello Mornings Challenge from Inspired to Action.  A friend challenged me to do this with her and I almost did not join.  The challenge begins Monday and I'm pretty nervous.  Basically the challenge is to wake up early before your children to complete Bible reading and prayer time, exercise, and shower.  While I normally resolve to do this every year, it normally only lasts a day or two.  I absolutely hate waking up early!
By joining with everyone in the Hello Mornings group, I am hoping to stay accountable and encouraged until waking early becomes a habit.  My goal is to wake up around 6 a.m. to be ready to face the day before Buddy and Sweetpea wake up at 7:00.  Hopefully this will lead to smoother mornings and more consistent exercise and Bible Study.  It will be interesting to see how this goes but I'm willing to give it a try!
If you are looking for a way to change your habits and wake before your children, check out Inspired to Action for awesome tips and the e-book Maximize Your Mornings.  My favorite part of the e-book is the printable forms and charts to help plan out my quiet time and work out goals.

2011 Resolutions

I have decided to simplify my New Year's Resolutions to three this year.  Normally I have a list of about ten things I want to change and end up giving up by February.  Maybe simplicity will help!

Here are my 2011 Resolutions:
1.  Read the Bible through in 90 days!
2.  Be Healthier
         a.  Eat better and exercise at least 3 times a week.
3.  Grow Buddy and Sweetpea spiritually.

Reading the Bible in 90 Days is going to be a fun challenge and has built in accountability.  There is still time to join in on the challenge if you'd like!  It starts Monday, January 3rd, which I personally liked since we traveled home today and I will not be starting out behind.

Becoming healthier is going to be the hardest resolution for me because I am a Southern girl and I love to cook with butter and I hate to exercise.  And unlike last year, I am not going to aim to work out every day but only three times a week which is much more realistic!

Finally, growing Buddy and Sweetpea spiritually is a vague resolution but I know that the application of faith to their lives will always be changing.  I want to continue with Buddy's scripture memory (especially since he memorized Isaiah 9:6 in days!) and my first goal with Sweetpea is to have her sit quietly through prayer time.

I'd love to hear your resolutions and ideas for the New Year!

Reading the Bible in 90 days

The Bible in 90 Days Participant's Guide: An Extraordinary Experience with the Word of GodSo confession time...I, as a youth pastor's wife, have never read the entire Bible.  Every year, one of my New Year's Resolutions is to read the Bible in a year.  What ends up happening is I'll do great for about a month and then miss a day.  I'll think "I'll catch up tomorrow, the readings aren't that long" then tomorrow turns into a week and then so forth.  I've read a lot of the books, all of the New Testament and most of the Old at different points but never in order.  I tend to get bogged down in the prophets and in the sections with names.

Then I saw on Mom's Toolbox site, a challenge to Read the Bible in 90 Days beginning January 3rd.  90 days...it seems like a long time but it isn't really.  After thinking and praying about this for a while, I signed up.  I'm excited because it is a huge commitment (45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours of reading a day) but I am an avid reader, if you couldn't tell, and I think having longer readings will help.  I was also convicted at how I've easily spent 45 minutes reading other books for fun.  Why not read the Bible straight through like a novel?  It will definitely put things into context and be easier to keep up with where I am at in my readings.  Plus, if you sign up through Mom's Toolbox, you'll be put into an accountability group to check in every week on your progress.  Love it!

I challenge you as you are thinking about your New Year's Resolutions to sign up for Read the Bible in 90 Days.  And if you do, let me know and we'll have double accountability!
